detect a pattern here--it's hard to find a
picture without me in it!); below middle,

We were lucky to live only a short distance from Audubon Park, so we spent a lot of time there.  Left, in front: L, my
cousin Sharon & R, me; behind us, my cousin, Marleen; Center pic: my mom & me; Right: Aunt Myrtle & me.
I can't replace the thousands of family photos that were washed away, but I hope, by showing some pictures from my
own New Orleans family album, I can provide some scenes of familiar places of our shared New Orleans past.
When I was born my family was living at 5005 Perrier St, in the Uptown neighborhood.  By the time I was grown, I
was well-traveled, in a local kind of way.  We lived in Uptown, then, in MS for a year, then Camp Plauche in Harahan,
on to Bywater-St. Claude, back Uptown, again, then Carrollton.  As an adult, I lived in Carrollton for a few years, then
Broadmoor for a brief time, then we moved on to Lakeview.  I'm tired just thinking about all that packing!

After spending a year out of state, my parents came home to find a tight housing market; like many others
waiting for a house, we wound up spending several months at Camp Plauche in Harahan.  The camp had been
an active army base during WWII and its buildings converted after the war and used as apartments until
about 1960.  Above, with friends and Easter with cousin Ruth.
Photos at Audubon Zoo

Right: I'm on the right, sharing the reindeer with
a friend.  My son is pictured below.  Almost every
child in New Orleans eventually had a picture
taken on the bear or deer at Audubon Park.  By
the time my son sat on the bear, below, it looked
as if it had seen better days but, like playing on
Monkey Hill, it was a tradition!

Palmer Park, Carrollton and Claiborne.
I kept trying to escape, but they
kept building highter fences. :-)
Above, at a birthday party; the girls on either end are
cousins, I don't remember the name of the little boy, he
was a neighbor.  Left:  Do you remember the pony who
came around to different neighborhoods for a photo?  I
think this was the only time I ever spent on horseback --
except for the carousel at City Park.
I played Mary in the Christmas play - it was my first and last lead role. :-)

Notice the NOPSI power substation across the street
from our house; I remember that there was a
constant loud "hum"in the air.  The building's still
there, but it's no longer in use.

Thanks to the kindness of two visitors to the page, I've
learned the names of the elephants who used to reside at
the zoo:  Little Miss Sunbeam and Itema.
