The O'Brien Family

~ and the ~

New Orleans Fire Department
I often say that each New Orleans family's history reflects a history of the city and these O'Brien
family pages demonstrate how true that is.  With grateful thanks to
Eddie O'Brien for sharing so
much of his family's history and the history of the New Orleans Fire Department.  Mr. O'Brien's
grandfather and father were members of the NOFD and Mr. O'Brien was a member of the NOFD
from 1961-1987, when he retired as District Chief.  He was appointed Superintendent of Fire,
Jefferson Parish, in 1987, and served until 1992.  Two members of a fourth generation of O'Briens
have been members of the Kenner and Jefferson Parish Fire Departments:  Captain Edward J.
O'Brien, III, Kenner Fire Department, retired 7/7/07; and Scott O'Brien (Operator) Jefferson
Parish Fire Department, East Bank.
