The Serio Family
Vincent Serio, an immigrant from Cefalu, Sicily, owned a retail store at 1101 Decatur
Street.  This photo was taken inside his store, with three of his six children.  From left to
right:  Vincent Serio, with daughters:  Virginia Serio Cabibi, Rosemary Serio and Angelina
Serio Caruso Quartararo.  This picture was taken between 1920 - 1922.  Vincent married
Gracia Maria Oteri in 1906.  He spoke 7 different languages to accommodate his
customers, who were mostly foreign seaman whose ships had docked in New Orleans.  He
was an original member of the Cefalutana Society, which is still in existence today.  This
photograph was contributed by Bernie Caruso, daughter of the youngest child, Angelina,
who is a native of New Orleans, and the only one of Vincent and Gracia's six children still
living.
An envelope from Mr. Serio's store.
Many thanks to Bernie Caruso for sharing these images with us.
