The Serio Family |
Vincent Serio, an immigrant from Cefalu, Sicily, owned a retail store at 1101 Decatur Street. This photo was taken inside his store, with three of his six children. From left to right: Vincent Serio, with daughters: Virginia Serio Cabibi, Rosemary Serio and Angelina Serio Caruso Quartararo. This picture was taken between 1920 - 1922. Vincent married Gracia Maria Oteri in 1906. He spoke 7 different languages to accommodate his customers, who were mostly foreign seaman whose ships had docked in New Orleans. He was an original member of the Cefalutana Society, which is still in existence today. This photograph was contributed by Bernie Caruso, daughter of the youngest child, Angelina, who is a native of New Orleans, and the only one of Vincent and Gracia's six children still living. |
