The Past Whispers - Home
Snapshots from my Family Album:
Louisiana World Exposition
New Orleans, 1984
The Fair's mascot:  Seymour D. Fair
These are photos I took at the 1984 World's Fair.  Despite generally lukewarm reviews of the fair, my family and I loved it.  We were there constantly and enjoyed every minute of it.  I hope these photos bring back some happy memories for you.  Nancy
I loved the setting for the carousel and spent a good deal of time resting from the long walks and people-watching on the benches in the area in the picture below.
There were a lot of mermaids and alligators milling about...of (mostly) the decorative variety.
The Louisiana Pavilion...appropriately, "Rain" was the state's theme.
My friends, Marion Laudumiey, on the left, and Mary Andollina, on the right, (facing the camera) wait in line at the Roman Candy Man's wagon.
Our neighbor's daughter (in gray blouse), heading toward Italian Plaza, where we all enjoyed many a great meal while the Fair was open.
Back in the day when you needed a horse or mule to make deliveries:  the original Evans Creole Candy wagon.  Located in the French Quarter, Evans has been making pralines since 1900 and they branched out to include other candies in 1968.
The Gondola rides across the Mississippi River were everybody's favorite.  But not mine!  I'm not that fond of heights--especially in a gondola high above the river when there's a stiff breeze blowing!  After one ride, I watched them from the ground, while everyone else had the adventure high in the sky.
These two were not taken at the Fair.  They're pictures of the Fair's mascot, Seymour D. Fair, making an appearance at a Saints game in the Dome.  In the one on the right, I asked Seymour to smile for the camera.  It's kind of hard to tell if he did. :-)
Son Jim and an unknown friend.
The African Queen was at the Fair...so much smaller than it looks in the movie.
